Scouting Memorial Project
9th October 2013
Hi all,
At this year’s Gilwell Reunion I saw details of the “Scouting Memorial Project”.
Simply, it is a project to raise over £80,000 to have a memorial placed at the national arboretum, dedicated to all those members of Scouting who sacrificed their lives through conflict.
Full details, plus the order form, are at www.tsmp.org.uk
Funds are raised by selling cloth badges (suggested ‘donation’ of £1) and pin badges (suggested ‘donation’ £2). Gift aid will be claimed on all eligible ‘donations’.
The Girl Guides and the Boys Brigade are just 2 of the youth organisations who already have their own national memorial at the arboretum. So why not us ?????
To raise £80,000 across all members of UK Scouting should be a piece of cake; and with Remembrance Day just round the corner, it would be great to see every members of Dartford Scouting, wearing the badge.
I have spoken to our County Commissioner, who has given permission for Kent Scouts to wear the badge on their Uniform as an ‘occasional’ badge, it remains on until the CC decides it should be removed, i.e. no end date.
I have ordered 50 cloth badges for 9th Dartford Troop.
I intend to hand out the badges and ask for a donation, minimum of £1; any surplus money will be sent on to the Scouting Memorial Project.
I hope you too will want to support this project.
Regards
Neil Gearing
