A Scout Name Badge to help a South African Scouter help himself
As those of you who know me will know, I have been involved in supporting Scouting in the province of Mpumalanga, South Africa for many years; many of you are regular supporters of the Ice Cream Badge Project which raises much needed funds to support the work that the Scout office does there.
One of my friends, a young man called Bhembe Nhlanhla (AKA Lucky) is coming to the UK to work for 8 months at the Youlbury Scout Activity Centre in Oxfordshire as part of the International Service Crew. He has to raise his own air fare and any extra cash he may need before he starts to receive a wage packet. Coming to work in the UK is a great opportunity for someone like Lucky; he is well thought of within Scouting Mpumalanga having represented the province at conferences in Germany whilst employed at the Area Scout office and is a possible future Provincial Leader of the movement. He is working very hard to widen his experiences and horizons while still a young man by coming here to work at a National Scout centre.
One of the things he is doing is making name badges for Scout Leaders – as worn by the former secretary General of WOSM amongst others – he is selling them at £5 each to be delivered after his arrival in the UK. As you can see from the picture below they just hook over the button on your Scout Shirt pocket and with the small leather thong look very smart and somewhat reminiscent of the Wood Badge. You can ask for your Scout name or forename to be put on it; the choice is yours.
If you would like to buy one and support Lucky in his endeavours then please place your order with Tracey Dobinson (another Scouting friend of his here in the UK) who will pass them on to Lucky. She can be contacted at Tracey.email@example.com she will also let you know about how to pay for the name badge Either by cheque or BACS
Best wishes and many thanks in advance
